AI Career Notes: May 2021 Edition

In this monthly feature we bring you up to date on the latest career developments in the enterprise AI community -- promotions, new hires and accolades:


Mike Adler

N-able (formerly SolarWinds MSP) appointed Mike Adler as its chief technology and product officer. Adler will be responsible for leading the N-able global technology and product organizations. He has held executive leadership roles at RSA, Constant Contact and Symantec.

“I’m looking forward to helping drive N-able’s next phase of growth and inspire new product enhancements that will most benefit our MSPs and their customers. There are very few opportunities where you can join a company like N-able that is already set up for growth and also has the ability to invest in its people and technology to continue to move the solutions forward,” said Adler. “The team has built a platform that allows our MSP partners to grow their businesses around customizable solutions designed to facilitate their success. John Bean

Green Revolution Cooling, provider of single-phase immersion cooling solutions for datacenters, appointed former Schneider Electric director of innovation and technology, John Bean, as its chief technology officer. Bean will be responsible for setting the technology strategy for GRC while providing guidance to the engineering and product teams to capture and meet the needs of immersion cooling customers.

“I am thrilled to be joining an innovative company like GRC to meet the current and future demands of end users everywhere,” said Bean. “Having spent decades working with data center cooling infrastructure, it’s clear that liquid immersion is the answer to today’s cooling challenges as the industry continues to increase high-density environments and modular and edge deployments, not to mention the energy efficiency inherent with liquid immersion cooling.”

Brian Cabrera

Quantum Corp. appointed Brian Cabrera to its executive leadership team as general counsel and chief compliance officer. Cabrera, a 25-year veteran in the legal industry, previously served as an assistant United States attorney in the criminal division of the Northern California federal prosecutor's office. He also previously served as a senior vice president and general counsel for Nvidia.

"I am very excited to join the executive leadership team at Quantum as they continue to build leading platforms supporting the large and growing video and unstructured data market," said Cabrera. "I look forward to contributing to the company's future growth and success."

Stephen Clark

Cambridge Quantum Computing welcomed former DeepMind’s senior staff research scientist Stephen Clark as its head of artificial intelligence. Clark also holds an honorary professorship at the Queen Mary University of London. Before DeepMind, Clark was a member of faculty at the University of Cambridge Department of Computer Science and Technology.

“I am delighted to be joining Cambridge Quantum, a cutting-edge world-leading quantum computing company,” Clark said. “I am especially pleased to be reigniting my longstanding collaboration with Professor Bob Coecke, now chief scientist at Cambridge Quantum, and excited about exploring the potential of quantum computers in AI generally with the company’s impressive scientific teams. I am also very excited that I will be continuing -- indeed accelerating -- a research program in language processing that started 15 years ago when I presented at OASIS (The Oxford Advanced Seminar on Informatic Structures). That presentation set out the problem of composing distributed representations in language, which seems especially well-suited to a solution based on quantum computation.”

Tony Coffey

AHEAD, a digital platform solutions provider, welcomed Tony Coffey as its chief operating officer. Coffey will be responsible for scaling AHEAD's operations to meet the demands of a fast-growing organization. He brings more than 25 years of experience in the technology sector, including serving as chief strategy officer at VCE, Dell EMC’s converged infrastructure division.

“AHEAD is extremely well-positioned to continue its high growth, both organically and through acquisition,” said Coffey. “I’m energized to help scale AHEAD’s operations and facilitate the efficient, quality delivery of digital solutions to our clients.”

Sharawn Connors

Micron Technology, Inc., memory and storage solutions, promoted Sharawn Connors to the role of chief diversity and inclusion officer. Connors joined Micron in July 2019 as the vice president of diversity, equality and inclusion.

Under Connors’ leadership, Micron established six key DEI commitments for fiscal year 2021, integrated global initiatives in the company’s business and operations, and set strategy-driven goals around diverse hiring, talent retention and advancement and inclusion. Her success has been demonstrated by several accomplishments that are now embedded into Micron’s culture and business.

Tina D’Agostin and Vince Gaydarzhiev

Alcatraz AI, developer of secure, frictionless access control products, announced changes to its leadership team. Tina D’Agostin, who formally held the role of chief revenue officer, was appointed chief executive to lead the worldwide growth of its AI-powered facial authentication solution for physical access control. Alcatraz's founder Vince Gaydarzhiev has taken the role of president and chief product officer to oversee product development.

"Tina has a proven track record and acumen to bring together teams across the organization to achieve market growth, making her the perfect fit to steer Alcatraz to be the leading facial authentication platform in the US and internationally, said Gaydarzhiev. "I will continue my role as president and chief product officer to focus on product strategy and innovation to meet our current and future customer needs, establishing Alcatraz AI as the standard for autonomous access control. I'm excited to partner with Tina to lead Alcatraz to its next level of growth."

Gisle Eckhoff

Bulk Infrastructure appointed Gisle M. Eckhoff as its executive vice president for its Bulk Data Centers division. Eckhoff has held leadership positions at DigiPlex, where he held the role of chief executive officer, and at CGI Group Inc. in Norway, where he held the role of senior VP and managing director.

“With so much untapped market potential in the Nordics, Bulk with its strong focus on sustainability, the significant investments in network fiber and a long track record of land banking will give me and the team a great platform for unlocking the power of the Nordics,” says Eckhoff. “This is an exciting place to be at an exciting time.”

Alex Fields and Aaron Shagrin

Alex Fields joined Jio Haptik Technologies Limited, a conversational artificial intelligence solutions provider, as its director of market development. Fields will be responsible for strategic partnerships & alliances. He has nearly 10 years of experience across strategy consulting, AI and cryptocurrency.

Jio Haptik Technologies Limited also welcomed Aaron Shagrin as its senior vice president of the revenue and partnerships division. Shagrin will lead all go-to-market activities, including revenue, sales, marketing and partnerships for North America.

Sarah Hamilton

Infrascale, a cloud-based backup and disaster recovery solutions provider, appointed Sarah Hamilton as its senior vice president of marketing. Hamilton brings over 20 years of experience holding leadership roles at companies including Sungard Availability Services, RSA, FireMon and Dell EMC.

Pam Holmberg

ThoughtSpot, a search and AI-driven analytics solutions provider, welcomed Pam Holmberg as its head of people. Holmberg will be responsible for driving employee engagement, recruiting and human resources at ThoughtSpot. Prior to joining the company, she was an executive vice president with Realtor.com.

“ThoughtSpot has a standout and unique culture which rewards creative thinking, collaboration and team partnership above all else,” said Holmberg. “In my previous roles I’ve built employee advocacy programs from the ground-up and I am eager to bring the same hands-on approach to ThoughtSpot’s teams, especially as the workplace takes on a new meaning in a post-pandemic world. I’m committed to prioritizing our people first and foremost and ensuring they feel championed and supported.”

Niels Keunecke

IGEL, provider of the next-gen edge OS for cloud workspaces, appointed Niels Keunecke as its senior vice president of enterprise sales. Keunecke will be responsible for IGEL’s growth and deploying its software solutions to enterprise customers throughout the European and global marketplaces.

“The market has evolved massively over the last six years and since the pandemic has seen global shortages of endpoint hardware,” said Keunecke. “IGEL’s focus on providing an agnostic operating system in a time when more and more employees are expected to be able to work from anywhere is helping enterprises make more of their existing hardware, with greater choice and cost savings. This is particularly attractive for some of the largest entities in the world – from banks and healthcare providers to retailers and government agencies. However, what’s also impressive is IGEL’s culture of innovation and customer-centric approach. I‘m very much looking forward to becoming part of this impressive growth story.”

Vic Kulkarni

Silicon Integration Initiative appointed former vice president of strategy of Ansys, Vic Kulkarni, as its chief strategy officer. Prior to Ansys, Kulkarni served as co-founder, president and chief executive officer of Sequence Design, which focused on EDA solutions for power and energy-efficient chip designs.

“The duality of Moore’s Law and the More-than-Moore trend in scaling below 10 nanometers is creating a renaissance in the semiconductor industry,” Kulkarni said. “I am honored to join Ansys and the Si2 ecosystem in addressing crucial interoperability challenges facing the next generation of semiconductor-to-electronic system designs.”

Haniyeh Mahmoudian

DataRobot, an enterprise artificial intelligence solutions provider, appointed Haniyeh Mahmoudian as its global AI ethicist. The newly created role aims to further the company’s mission to build and deliver trustworthy and ethical AI systems. Mahmoudian previously served as a data science researcher for DataRobot, focusing on privacy, bias, trust and ethics in AI.

“When used properly, AI can be a force for good and help contribute solutions to some of society’s most pressing issues, such as access to equitable healthcare,” said Mahmoudian. “The COVID-19 pandemic has inspired unprecedented interest in AI. However, to accomplish those goals we must ensure machine learning systems have trustworthy and ethical parameters built-in from the start. I’m proud to lead DataRobot’s efforts to make AI tools accessible, trusted and equitable for all stakeholders, including the medical community.”

Mike McLaughlin

Klaviyo, a customer data and marketing automation platform provider, welcomed Mike McLaughlin as its first chief customer officer. McLaughlin will be responsible for Klaviyo’s worldwide sales, partnerships, customer success and customer support teams.

“I’ve spent my career helping small businesses and entrepreneurs succeed by connecting with customers and owning their online presence,” said McLaughlin. “I love the idea that individuals and brands can have control of their growth and presence online, rather than being beholden to the giant platforms of the world. I look forward to helping Klaviyo provide more of these vital businesses with the tools they need to succeed online through one-to-one customer relationships.”

Dave Morris and Rebel Brown

Quantum Computing Inc. welcomed Dave Morris as its chief revenue officer and Rebel Brown as its vice president of marketing. Morris brings over 20 years of experience leading sales strategy, business development and execution at companies inclluding Cisco Systems and Intel.

Brown brings an extensive background in strategy, product marketing/management and positioning. She helped raise more than $500 million in startup funding, launched innovative technologies in software systems, development, HPC and more for companies including Apple, IBM, EMC, SGI and BEA.

Barry O’Melia

Brightflag, an artificial intelligence-powered enterprise legal management platform provider, appointed Barry O’Melia as its vice president of product. O’Melia comes from Relativity, an e-discovery and compliance software provider. Before Relativity, O’Melia spent more than 20 years focusing on big data analysis with e-discovery provider Digital WarRoom.

“In-house legal is a community of brilliant minds, complex challenges, and high standards, and that’s always inspired me to bring my best work,” said O’Melia. “What Brightflag is doing with AI is already unique within the industry, and our modern infrastructure leaves us with no limitations as we look to quickly build out new capabilities with an everyday impact on our customers’ priorities.”

James Palmer

Unbabel, an AI-powered language operations platform that helps businesses deliver multilingual support at scale, has announced the hire of James Palmer as chief financial officer (CFO). Palmer is a 30-plus year veteran of advising and leading global companies through growth and development in the technology sector. He was the head of sales and strategy for Achilles and was instrumental in the sale of MessageLabs to Symantec for $700 million as the senior vice president of strategy and business development.

“CFOs around the world are increasingly under pressure to find better, more efficient solutions to support rapid growth for their businesses," Palmer said. “Unbabel enables organizations to continue to provide exceptional customer experiences as they scale into new markets without having to make large investments they would normally require.”

Aayush Prakash

AI.Reverie, a synthetic data platform provider, welcomed Aayush Prakash as its head of machine learning. Prakash is renowned in the field of machine learning and recognized as one of the foremost synthetic data researchers in the world. Over the course of his career, Prakash has delivered important work, including scene graph generation and domain randomization. At Nvidia, he was focused on unlocking the domain gap problem.

“I have joined AI.Reverie now because of its lead in synthetic data development," said Prakash. "Rather than talking about the future, AI.Reverie has already been making it easy for organizations around the world to put synthetic data to work in order to take on their biggest opportunities and challenges. Shortly, AI.Reverie’s self-serve platform will put the data at every machine learning professionals’ fingertips.”
